DiStruc project title: Molecular insight in the spinning process of LC fibres
Supervisors: Erik Westerhof, Marisol Ripoll, Pavlik Lettinga
I studied Chemistry and Physics for the teaching profession at the University of Cologne in Germany. My thesis for the first state exam dealt with Monte Carlo simulations in chemical systems.
Within DiStruc, my research is aimed at a better understanding the spinning processes of high performance fibers, more precisely the crucial step of coagulation. To that end, coarse-grained Molecular Dynamics simulation methods will be employed, promising deeper insight into the small-scale physical processes involved in coagulation of rod-like polymers.
